The Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences and the Heidelberg Center for American Studies at Heidelberg University invite applications for a
Full professorship (W3) in “American Studies” (f/m/d)
with an expected start date of April 1, 2028.
We are looking for excellent candidates from the social sciences (in particular, sociology, political science, economics/economic history, or media studies) with a strong focus on the United States.
Your responsibilities:
The core responsibilities of the professorship in research and teaching are at the Heidelberg Center for American Studies (HCA). The HCA is a central academic institution of Heidelberg University and brings together expertise on the US from various disciplines in the humanities and social sciences. Applicants should also demonstrate the ability and willingness to serve as director of the HCA.
Your qualifications:
The appointment requires a university degree, a qualified doctorate, pedagogical aptitude which is usually proven by teaching experience, and (in accordance with Article 47, paragraph 2 of the Higher Education Law of the state of Baden-Württemberg) a habilitation, a successfully evaluated junior professorship or equivalent qualifications.
We are looking for candidates who have an outstanding and internationally visible track record of working within the interdisciplinary context of American Studies and who are well connected in this field. Experience in collaborative research projects and in acquiring third-party funding is required.
