CANADA DAY 2020 GOES ONLINE LET’S CELEBRATE TOGETHER!
From unusual circumstances, creative solutions emerge. In view of the current situation under the Covid-19 pandemic, this year’s National Day of Canada in Germany („Canada Day, Fête du Canada“) is celebrated online on July 1st!
July 1, 1867, the „British North America Act“ laid the foundation for the Canadian Confederation. Since then, Canadians have adopted this date as their national day. In Germany, the “Canada Day” celebrations have now become a tradition!
This year, the Canadian Embassy in Berlin celebrates the Canadian National Day with an online event supported by multiple partners, including the special participation of „United We Stream“ – a solidarity initiative of the Berlin club culture.
On July 1st, the program will be broadcasted from 4 p.m. to midnight on the dedicated event website: https://canadaday-germany.de.
From 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., comedian Ben MacLean will animate the livestream event from the Marshall McLuhan Salon of the Canadian Embassy in Berlin. Canadian Music, comedy, literature, sports and culture from both sides of the Atlantic will bring great entertainment to audiences in Germany and beyond. “Cooking Canadian“ with Kim Thúy, reading with Simon Boulerice, screening of indigenous films by Wapikoni, hockey training with the Eisbären and a mapping workshop for kids – there will be something for everyone to experience Canada’s incredible beauty and diversity!
From 7 p.m. onwards, curated by Sound Diplomacy and provided in collaboration with United We Stream and Arte, the second part of the celebrations will be broadcasted live from the Berlin Kulturbrauerei under the title „United We Stream: Canada Day live from Frannz Club“. Among the sophisticated musical line-up of Canadians living in Berlin, we are excited to present D. Tiffany, DJ Kirby (Blue Hawaii), Magic Island and Nathan Micay.
„United We Stream: Canada Day live from Frannz Club“ is an online event in solidarity with the Berlin local club scene, an important springboard for emerging Canadian artists in Europe. Donations are welcome at http://uws.betterplace.org and benefit cultural institutions in need. Of the donations, eight percent will go to the Civil Sea Rescue Foundation.
On our website, Canada fans will also have access in Germany to Canadian food culture on the „Taste of Canada“ online shop.
