Deadline for submissions: July 19, 2021

CuiZine: The Journal of Canadian Food Cultures / Revue des cultures culinaires au Canada is seeking contributions for a special issue celebrating graduate and undergraduate research, writing, and art related to food in Canada.

Food is essential for human life and plays an important role in social and cultural practices around the world. Graduate and undergraduate students, including 2021 graduands, are invited to submit high-quality, completed, original work focused on food to be considered for publication in this issue. Student contributions retained for the issue will be automatically eligible for the “Best Student Submission” award, for which there will be a small monetary prize (details forthcoming). We encourage submissions addressing representations of food in Canadian literature and popular culture; Canadian food histories; analyses of Canadian foodways from sociological, anthropological and feminist perspectives; discussions of food in relation to gender, identity, culture, and Indigenous food sovereignty.

Submissions may include research papers of 2500-3500 words, food-themed creative writing pieces (poetry, creative fiction or nonfiction) of up to 2000 words, and food-related art (including but not limited to audio, video, and visual pieces in URL, PDF, JPEG, TIFF formats accompanied by writeups in Word-readable formats).
