A full day of conversation and action on immigration, refugees, belonging, and how we build inclusive societies, featuring Josef Haslinger, Ai Weiwei, Naika Foroutan, Adrienne Clarkson, John Ralston Saul, Dany Laferriere, and many more speakers from Canada, Germany, and across the world.

6 Degrees drives a global conversation on citizenship and inclusion. The Canadian initiative includes an immersive annual three-day event in Toronto, as well as a series of one-day pop-ups across Canada and around the world. On November 12, 6 Degrees is coming to Berlin. 6 Degrees is about connection, conversation, artistic representation, and the power that comes from bringing people together. It is about what we can do to counter rising nativism and exclusion, and how we can go about doing it. It is also about language: how better language can make for better thinking; how we can reframe issues to open hearts and change minds.

6 Degrees is presented by the Institute for Canadian Citizenship.

Ihre Stücke wie Des fraises en janvier (Erdbeeren im Januar), Bashir Lazhar, Désordre public (Öffentliche Unordnung) und Septembre (12. September) machten sie bekannt. Heute zählt sie zu den renommiertesten Theaterautorinnen Kanadas. Ihre Stücke sind mehrfach ausgezeichnet, in viele Sprachen übersetzt, ins Deutsche von Dr. Gerda Poschmann-Reichenau, und wurden in zahlreichen Ländern gespielt. Bashir Lazhar wurde von Philippe Falardeau verfilmt und kam 2011 mit dem Titel Monsieur Lazhar in die Kinos. Auch hierzulande werden ihre Texte als Hörspiele produziert und auf die Bühne gebracht, wie Anfang November in Salzburg das Stück 12. September.
Neben mehr als 20 Theaterstücken hat Evelyne de la Chenelière 2011 den Roman La concordance des temps (Leméac) veröffentlicht. Auch für die Darstellung der Liebesgeschichte zwischen Pierre und Nicole hat die Autorin, wie oft in ihrem Schreiben, die Form des Monologs gewählt.

Am 1. November stellt Evelyne de la Chenelière eine Auswahl ihrer Theatertexte und La concordance des temps vor.

Einlass ist ab 19 Uhr, Veranstaltungsbeginn um 19:30 Uhr.
Die Veranstaltung findet auf Französisch und Deutsch statt.

The Canadian film director Jo-Anne Velin presents her new documentary Bild des Tages across Germany, one night only per location, in 27 CineStar multiplex Cinemas. The German-Canadian film is a moving and unusually intimate portrait of the so-called Silent Majority in Germany in an iconic location throughout October and November 2018. Velin shot the film in a part of the country that was attacked by arsonists during spring 2015. The remains, captured in a roof’s image made by a Deutsche Press Agentur photographer, literally traveled around the world. For about a year, it was exactly this roof that became the international and national icon of a big wave of new far right violence across the country. Velin spent 100 days over the course of 17 months in the region where the arson occurred, to draw out people who had completely disappeared from public discourse it seemed. 11 months after the arson attack, an election in the state of Sachsen-Anhalt brought the leader of the AfD into the State parliament; he received his direct mandate, coincidentally, in exactly the same electoral riding where the arson occurded. This is the only documentary film in Germany explicitly about the silent ones. It is steered by the director’s Canadian perspective and reflexes. It is not a film that fits simplistic categorisations, but every image and sound is authentic. Bild des Tages / The Picture of the Day premiered at Dok Leipzig international film festival, it has been shown in the region where I shot it, and Cinestar agreed to tour it through their (outstandingly equipped) cinemas across Germany.

Winter term, North American Studies, Leuphana Universität Lüneburg

This interdisciplinary lecture series at the North American Studies department of Leuphana Universität Lüneburg offers a variety of historical, political, ethnographic as well as literary perspectives on contemporary events and topics from the neighboring North American countries that meet at the 49th parallel: Canada and the United States. Scholars from North America as well as Germany will take a critical look at a variety of issues. This semester’s program include a film screening with Drew Hayden Taylor and lectures by Astrid Böger (Hamburg), Amina Grunewald (HU Berlin), Wiebke Kartheus (Göttingen), Martina Kohl (U.S. Embassy), and Uwe Küchler (Tübingen).

Internationales Kolloquium „Creativity and Innovation in Urban Ecosystems – Munich and Montreal in Comparison“ am 11. und 12. Oktober 2018 an der Universität Passau

Was macht eine Stadt zu einer kreativen Stadt? Wie und wo entstehen Ideen in kreativen Städten und wie verbreiten sich diese Ideen? Antworten auf diese Fragen suchen Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler, Stadtverwaltungen, Gründerzentren und junge Gründerinnen und Gründer gemeinsam beim internationalen Kolloquium „Kreativität und Innovation in städtischen Ökosystemen: München und Montréal im Vergleich“ am 11. und 12. Oktober 2018 im IT-Zentrum der Universität Passau (Innstr. 43). Interessierte sowie Vertreterinnen und Vertreter der Medien sind herzlich eingeladen.

Das Kolloquium steht in Beziehung zu einem gleichnamigen Forschungsprojekt, das der Lehrstuhl für Interkulturelle Kommunikation (Prof. Dr. Christoph Barmeyer) in Kooperation mit der Wirtschaftshochschule HEC Montréal seit 2016 durchführt. Kern des Kolloquiums bilden Vorträge, Diskussionsrunden und Workshops mit renommierten Expertinnen und Experten aus der Forschung, aus den Stadtverwaltungen von München und Montréal, aus Gründerzentren sowie der Start-Up-Szene.

„Inhaltlich thematisiert das Kolloquium vor allem die Entstehung und Verbreitung von Ideen in München und Montréal im Vergleich, wissenschaftliche Perspektiven auf Kreativität und Innovation aus verschiedenen Disziplinen, die Rolle von Gründerzentren und Inkubatoren, Gründungserfahrungen junger Unternehmer sowie das Zusammenspiel von Politik und Wirtschaft hinsichtlich der Förderung von Kreativität und Innovation im städtischen Umfeld“, fasst Prof. Dr. Christoph Barmeyer zusammen. „Für den Kulturvergleich ist die vergleichende Perspektive von besonderem Wert.“ Die enge Zusammenarbeit mit Kanada hat in Bayern generell und an der Universität Passau im Besonderen Tradition, die seit vielen Jahren eine Partnerschaft mit der Université Laval in Québec unterhält.

Das Kolloquium richtet sich an Interessierte aus Wirtschaft, Wissenschaft und Administration sowie an Studierende, die sich für das Thema Kreativität und Innovation in urbanen Ökosystemen interessieren. Insofern wird im Kolloquium ein Austausch über Einfluss, Rolle und Ergebnisse von Interkulturalität in regionalen Kreativitäts- und Innovationssystemen in Städten wie München und Montreal stattfinden.

Das Kolloquium findet hauptsächlich auf Englisch statt.
